This is a card I made for Father's day for my FIL. While we do not celebrate Memorial Day in Canada, we celebrate Rememberance Day for our Veteran's on November 11th. I initially chose this image for my Father in law because he has always had a love for the sea, and decorated the family home in a nautical theme. As I was making it, I remembered that my father in law lied about his age - he was just 17 and got into the Canadian Navy during WW11. There are not a lot of Veteran's left from World War 11 - but my FIL is one of them. He told me that he went to Hong Kong aboard a Canadian Warship back in WW2. This year in Canada we are celebrating the Cenntenial of Canada's Navy - and we have stamps and coins commerating that anniversary.
It took me about 30 copics or more to colour this in!!! Anyway - as flowergal36 has said - every card has a story -and I realized the link between the nautical theme that I was using and my FIL's love of all things nautical and his pride in fighting for Canada in WW2.
Thanks for looking!!

Your FIL will love it, my dad also "fibbed" about his age when going to WWII. So glad he came back...or else I wouldn't be here to comment on your beautiful card. LOL

A beautiful card to go with the awesome memories Debz. And, 30 copics?? Did I read that right??? I wouldn't know what to do with more than 2 or 3 copics, but 30. Are you going to have a new group called The Copic-teerz???? Somehow, that doesn't sound right. Whatever you did with them there 30 copics, you did extremely well Debz as this is a masterpiece and beautifully colored. Your FIL is sure to appreciate this one Debz!! Great going!! TFS!

OMG, Debzi, I can really tell you put your heart and soul into this beautiful card. I love it and I know your FIL will be speechless. I bet he doesn't know his DIL is so talented. Just look at that beautiful lighthouse, the clouds, water...just magnificent. And, all those copics...girl, you were
having the time of your life. That may be a record...30 or more on one card. But, the coloring sure made it beautiful. Your FIL sounds like a wonderful man and I know you are proud of his service in WWII. You should be!!! I love your card, Debzi. Now, get to that other one...you know. LOL I'm so glad you uploaded this awesome card with the great story to the StampinB.

Gorgeous card! My dad is a WWII vet also...one of the youngest. He was drafted just after completing high school. By the time he completed basics and waiting, he was on board a ship headed for a destination somewhere in Asia when the war ended. Ended up serving his tour as part of the peace-keeping troops, which I'm glad or I may not be here! Lovely tribute to the troops, Deb! Fantastic watercoloring!

Oooh, such a wonderful card for your FIL especially if his home is done in a nautical theme. I think this must be a first for you with that image. Yikes, i cant imagine how long this must have taken you with all those copics you've used. I must say I'm rightfully impressed with your lovely, yet masculine, card.

oh wow, you have colored this to perfection Deborah!! My FIL also lied about his age so he could enlist...he did and even went to Normandy. He passed on 3 yrs ago now, and my husband has inherited all his war medals, which I intend to have mounted and framed for him one of these days! Thanks for sharing your story and link your card!
