Marie (momof5sons) has given us a fun story this week about Gertie Gussie from Gainsville. Gertie has lost her drivers license for a little while so Buster the local crop duster, has offered to fly Gertie around the village so she can keep looking after all the towns folk.
Our cards are going to Connie Jo9. Connie is the sister of our very own Mutnik (aka Cathy), I guess that kind of makes Connie, Curt's auntie. We are to bring bright and happy cards and send some sunshine to cheer Connie up.
I had a little tidy up recently and found an A4 pad of water colour paper so I decided to create a bright beach scene. I must say that the watercolour paper is very forgiving and will take a lot of paint and water. It even holds up to a bit of light scrubbing (until the paper starts to flake off in chunks). I know all this because I had a little accident...
The background was done by applying watered down acrylic paint to paper, sprinkle cous cous, allow to air dry and soak up some of the paint (MIX81 challenge). I did the bottom half for the sea in a rich blue and the sky in a very light blue. It was at this point I had a little mishap.... I knocked over a glass of water than I had been soaking paint brushes in (green paint). It went all over the light blue area. I got heaps of the colour off however it no longer looked like a beach background.
Plan B - turn the paper upside down, purposely add more green and do an aerial scene instead of a beach scene. The ocean is now the sky, I added a yellow circle for the sun and a few die-cut clouds and a hand drawn banner. Job done and back on track for Connie.
Gertie and Buster are Art Impressions acrylic stamps. I coloured them with a combination of Copics, distress inks and Wink of Stella brushes. The little city in the background is a RAK stamp from our sweet Miss Kathleen Lammie from Alabama. The garden at the front is an acrylic stamp by IndigoBlu. Lots of liquid pearls were added and flicks and dots with a white sharpie paint pen.
Thank you for looking and have a great week ladies. P.S. Mail seems to be taking forevahhhhh between Aus and the US but this is on the way.
