When Mother Mark mentioned that this week's teapot challenge was to make a card about this year's Raleigh Running of the NACSCAR (National Association of Canine Stock Car Auto Racers) Race I knew I had heard something about this race before.
My DH is a big NASCAR fan and he told me once that his father was also a big fan of NACSCAR as well as NASCAR. So I called him up and he told me that he actually had an autographed photo from the first running of the race in Raleigh in 1968.
The picutre is of the winners of that race, Spike (on the right) and Pete (holding checkered flag) along with Spike's then girlfriend and now wife, Lady. Spike was the driver and Pete was the Crew Chief on the team. DH's Dad told me that Spike always let Pete hold the checkered if they won a race because his philosphy is that it was a team sport. Spike and Pete Wuuff were so well known in the sport and this race was such a big deal that they were loaned Herbie the Love Bug to run in the race.
DH's Dad was there at the race and got an autographed photo of the boys and Lady along with Herbie and their own personal fire hydrant that they always took with them on race day, both for luck and for the convenience of having their own right handy.
The photo is clearly vintage - it's sort of a sepia toned photo and it has obviously been slightly hand coloured to accent Herbie's lovely blue and red racing stripes.
In all seriousness....
I stamped the punch buggie from Clear Dollar stamps and the dogs and hydrant are from a Recollections set from Michaels. The Checkered Flag and racing helmet are hand drawn. I decided on the fly that this would be what I wanted to do and coloured them all in gray tones and then "colourised" the little blue and red accents. I cut the dogs and hydrant out and assembled my scene and then coloured the background. The scene is then edged in black ink and mounted on a white card base.
Hope you like it and thanks for looking.
And thank you again Mother Mark for another fabulous challenge. Hope you don't mind the liberties I took with your story.
PS The shading on the card is much better IRL. Gotta learn how to light my cards better for photos.

LOL Bev!
I just have the gift of BS and like to make stuff up. My mind just starts to spin a tale and I roll with it.
I love Mother Mark for her creative stories and it gives me an terrific excuse to do something wacky and whimsical and creative.
Thanks for all the lovely comments on my cards.
