I designed this page with my parents in mind. May is their anniversary and I always send them red roses to celebrate the occasion. This page is so lovely IRL. I used More Mustard for the background wash and tapered the color out toward the edges. The calendar page looks washed out to white, but it actually has a light More Mustard wash on it as well. I used the damask background stamp from Flourishes on the left side of the page. I first stamped and embossed the pattern. I then masked the rest of the page using Eclipse masking paper. I inked a brayer in Basic Black and applied the black ink several times for a totally black panel. I used an almost dry watercolor paint brush to soften and even the color. I then used a tissue to remove the ink off the gold embossing. The butterfly was painted and cut out on another piece of watercolor paper. I painted the white portions with pearl ex and gum arabic to give the wings an irridescent look. Once everything was dry, I adhered the butterfly's abdomen to the calendar page and folded the wings up for dimension.
