Chris is our hostess in the Color Challenge this week, and she has given us such a beautiful, earthy combination to work with: Pear Pizzazz, Pale Papaya and Soft Suede. The dessert option is to use lighter and darker shades of the same colors.
Bamboo Beauty is one of my favorite stamp sets in the current SU catalog, but I don't get many chances to use it for the Color Challenge. This week's palette makes me happy!
I started with a piece of hot press watercolor paper, and used the wrinkle-free distress technique with this week's SU colors. I did four or five layers of color with heat drying in between each one until I was happy with the background. I stamped the grid image randomly with Soft Suede ink that I stamped off once or twice to get different shades. Then I stamped the bamboo stalks and leaves and the symbol (which means Friendship), using my MISTI and stamping each 4 times to get a really dark image. The hot press paper has a smooth finish, so it's easier to get a good stamped impression on it. And I'm a big fan of rubber stamps (as compared to photopolymer) because they give such a beautiful and detailed impression.
I added some white splatters with calligraphy ink and a few opal rounds in Pale Papaya. I mounted this panel on a layer of Pale Papaya and then onto a Pear Pizzazz card base. Although the outside technically says Friendship, I will stamp the "real" greeting inside.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this week's colors. See you in the Gallery!
