My Mom's 97th birthday is right around the corner, and I needed to get a card finished and off in the mail very soon. I got busy checking out Splitcoaststamper challenges to see what I might come up with. I usually start with the Sketch Challenge, the Inspiration Challenge, or the Featured Stamper Challenge and move on to others from there. I play a little Challenge Catch-up game with myself, trying to incorporate as many challenges as possible in my card from the design, to the theme, or the color scheme. This week I found 12 challenges I could enter for this card!
From the Inspiration Challenge, I decided on a monochromatic card mostly in blue shades from light to dark. I'm using a ribbon bow, an idea from the Featured Stamper Challenge. Other challenges influenced my card design as well.
I remembered the Boho Indigo Card Kit that came out in the Stampin' Up 2020-21 Annual Catalog that I purchased and had never gotten around to using to make any cards. I really can't tell you why that is, because the 6x6 paper pad is full of gorgeous double-sided patterns in many shades of blue, including white. It also includes some ivory-white pre-embossed papers as well. I certainly planned to use it now for Mom's card, plus I added some Metallic Shimmer White, Balmy Blue, and Night of Navy cardstock layers, in addition to some Dotted Swiss vellum.
1) SC918 - Sketch Challenge/ #SC918 - 8.10.22. Challenge: Use the sketch to design your card. Here is a link to Sketch SC918.
2) AOCC22 - All Occasions Card Challenge/ August 2022 - 8/1/22. An ongoing/monthly challenge that encourages you to set goals ahead for each month to help you complete and mail your cards more timely! My card is a birthday card needed for my Mom's August birthday.
3) USEIT2022 - Use It Challenge/ August 2022 - 8/1/22. An ongoing/ annual challenge that requires you to use OLD/ DUSTY and long unused items and/or OLD/NEW items purchased, never used, and seemingly forgotten! OLD: Martha Stewart butterfly punch (can't even remember when I last used it and it's well over 15 years old); Ribbon...lurking in stash for over 5 years...the rubber band holding it wound to my old-fashioned clothes pin had rotted off! OLD/NEW: Boho Indigo Kit (used the papers from this kit and the stamp set--purchased from 2020-21 SU Annual catalog).
4) FS808 - Featured Stamper Challenge/ This Mom Puts It on the Table! (aka tblmom/ Kristen Hayes) - 7/31/22. Challenge: find a card in her gallery to CASE. What a beautiful gallery, Kristen...so glad you were selected as the Featured Stamper! As part of the Sketch Sample Card Team, I like to include as many challenges as possible in my personal goal of "Challenge Catch-up," so I was looking for ideas to add to my sketch card. I liked the idea of adding a bow at the bottom. Here is my inspiration card with its bow: SS Linen! The colors attracted me as well as I had decided to use blues from my inspiration from the Inspiration Challenge.
5) MIX444 - Mix-ability Challenge/ Side by Side - 7/30/21. Challenge: juxtapose a project with old & new, plus always use at least two mediums. My strips are quite literally side by side and their patterns are a mix of soft, old-fashioned florals that might be found in great-grandma's wallpaper, but other are bold geometrics or have edges and are of a more modern style! My mediums are: Copic Markers, stamping dye-ink, Wink of Stella-butterflies, plus a variety of papers.
6) IC869 - Inspiration Challenge/ Garden Collage - 7/29/22. Challenge: Find inspiration from pictures on chosen site for the week. I chose this picture because it gave me the inspiration for blues on my card. It even had staggered heights in the candles, which lent well to the sketch idea. Flowers for Hanukkah!
Here is a enlarged version of the picture: Enlarged-Flowers for Hanukkah!
7) F4A647 - Free 4 All Challenge/ Summertime Blues - 7/15/22. Challenge: let's see some blues in your card. Mines almost ALL blues!
ABC17D4 - Alphabet Challenge/ Letter D = Die Cuts - 6/15/22. My die cuts are: the Pinking Circle and the Stitched Circle.
9) MMTPT693 - Teapot Challenge/ Something Old, Something New - 11/2/21. Challenge: use something old & something new. Old: Martha Stewart Butterfly Trio punch; Boho Indigo kit. NEW: dotted vellum.
10) WT862 - Ways to Use It Challenge/ Lines Love Curves - 9/16/21. Challenge: use at least one line & one curve. My strips and matte layer borders are straight-line rectangles create straight lines, as well as the stitched line in the ribbon. The circle punching creates curves edges and curved stitching.
11) CAS581 - Clean & Simple/ Shades - 4/13/20. Challenge: create a monochromatic card by picking a color and use all shades of that color! My color is blue.
12) WORD0320 - Fan Club Monthly Themes--March 2020/ Blue Moon - 3/16/20. Monthly challenges open to Fan Club members only with five challenges for each month's theme. Central Theme Challenge #1 suggestion...fill the gallery with blue cards/ projects. My card is all shades of blues, thus fitting the central theme. My card is for the WORD Challenge: CYAN. Well, you used that sketch brilliantly and the addition of the bow is a wonderful touch. Love the colors, the patterns, the sentiment and the design. Happy 97th to your Mom. What a great way to celebrate her very special day. TFS
