Last Tuesday's tea party is for Cheryl and the request for flowers and water. Watercolor is something I want to learn to do better so I took my time watercoloring this floral image. I have a lot to learn, but one thing I think I learned is I need better quality watercolor paper!
I stamped and masked and stamped to arrange my flowers and leaves on this watercolor paper. The leaves are from Garden Treasure because Fifth Avenue Floral doesn't have any leaves in the set.
After everything was stamped to my satisfaction, I taped the paper onto a clipboard and started painting. This happened over the course of several days. I eventually added green around the images for the impression of more foliage there and transitioned to blue on the other side. I added Perfect Pearl splatters that don't really show up in the photo, as well as some black watercolor splatters which look more like a soft gray. After stamping the sentiment, it was a now what moment as I didn't really have a plan for finishing the card.
I opted to cut a frame from Early Espresso cs and stamp it lightly with the Hardwood stamp for some light texture. I popped it up with foam tape and adhered it to the watercolor panel. Then that was adhered to a white card base. Inside I stamped "Praying that your heart will be lifted by the many loving thoughts that surround you today." from Flourishing Phrases. That particular stamp had never seen ink.
I added a few highlights to the rose with a white gel pen and put dots of gold in the centers of the two yellow/orange flowers.
Thanks for looking!

Catherine this is absolutely beautiful. I can imagine our dear Cheryl shedding a tear when she receives this and especially when she reads your write-up. This is truly a creation from the heart. Xx

Great masking, and beautiful watercolouring. When I was in the fine art supplies business we went to a lot of art exhibitions, and one of the things I loved about the watercolour ones was to see the range from almost realistic to a lovely soft look that could only be watercolour. I think you've done a brilliant job here especially on the rose. I find big areas daunting.

This is lovely, Catherine! I’m with you on developing my water coloring skills. You are ahead of me in that regard! Your floral panel is so soft and lovely. A beautiful card for Cheryl.
