This is for Cathy's "Color Me Christmas" challenge today. I don't need any more Christmas cards, but I do need a Christmas Eve birthday card. This could totally pass for a Christmas card, except the inside says "Wishing you a Beary Happy Birthday!"
I printed out the bear and cut him with my ScanNCut. Then I decided that TLC08 would make a perfect icy looking background for him. TLC08 was Wax Paper Resist. I've done the wax paper resist with an embossing folder before, but this tutorial said to just crinkle up the wax paper and iron onto glossy cardstock. I sponged some blues onto the paper and got a pretty icy background.
Cathy's challenge required us to use two different coloring media on our card. I colored him first with my Spectrum Noirs and then used colored pencils to lightly give his fur some texture and pencil in a stockinette stitch knitted pattern onto his scarf. I'm not sure how well you can see either in the picture, but just that little bit more detail did finish off the polar bear nicely.

I love the technique you used for your background. I haven't tried that in a long time. Really love the look. I need to find a decent source for my glossy paper. I use to order it from SU, but not sure they even still handle it.

Oh my goodness, this is a berry special birthday card indeed! This polar bear with this wonderful expression on his face is so darned cute. I am super impressed you made this wonderful background too! I hope you have a very safe and Merry Christmas this year. ~Karen.
