My birthday month is June and it not only celebrated the day of my birth it usually fell around the end of school for the summer. So this card illustrates a 10 year old me (not sure why I'm dressed like a Dutch girl) enjoying one of my favorite summer activities...riding my bike. Do you remember learning to ride a bike? I do....I got my sister's blue bike (I didn't have one at that time) and my dad held on to the seat as I took off on the grass (in case of falls)...it didn't take long before I realized that at some point he had let go. I was on my own! What a feeling!
This also brings to mind my hometown...it could be another Whykickamoocow...not as small but filled with its share of characters. I remember a neighbor kid, Stevie who loved trains...we could see a train across the Mississippi from our front yard. If old Stevie heard a train whistle he hightailed it there to get a better view and he did his best train noise. We watched from our front window wondering what the heck is going on with this kid. Then there's our aunt and uncle who lived nearby. Aunt Maisy was not the best cook...one time my brother put his fork down on top of her strawberry pie and it was very springy... it came back so fast and flew across the table right into Great Uncle Walt...couldn't tell ya if he noticed or not...he kept right on eating... FYI-names have been changed to protect the innocent..
Thanks for bringing us more adventures of Whykickamoocow Susie..always an entertaining yarn.
