Karen is our hostess in the Color Challenge today, and she really challenged me with this week's colors: Peekaboo Peach, Calypso Coral, and Always Artichoke. What's worse, the dessert option is to have a bug on your card. I am averse to bugs, although I will make an occasional exception for ladybugs and butterflies.
The Majestic Bloom flower and leaves are stamped with this week's colors, including stamping full strength and stamping off (second generation stamping), to get the color variations. The vertical strip was embossed with a 3-D Leaves folder. My only unhappiness with this card is the stark white background that really doesn’t “go” with the rest of the card. I thought I’d fixed that by putting white Nuvo drops here and there as a tie-in, but the white drops picked up the ink colors of the background as they dried, and they are now yellow-ish/creamy, rather than white.
However, I am so pleased with the background! I used Spiced Marmalade and Peeled Paint Distress Oxide inks, but the unfolding of the process was fascinating (at least, to me!). I started out smooshing Spiced Marmalade on my craft mat and spritzing it with water, then dipping the mixed media paper into the ink. Dried it with my heat gun, and repeated with Peeled Paint. By drying between layers, the colors don't blend into each other. But uh-oh! That very orange-looking Spiced Marmalade looked yellow on the paper! Wanting to get back to the orange hues of this week's colors, I smooshed the ink pad direct to paper over most of the area, sprayed again and heat set. Much better! Then I decided to break out my new Textures by Ryn stamps, and stamped the leaf background all over the panel with Peeled Paint. I resisted the urge to spray it again, and just left it to dry. And I must say I do love the result!
A sweet little butterfly and "hello" greeting, both covered with Wink of Stella, and a few (formerly white) Nuvo drops finish it off!

Barbara, what a striking card you made! I LOVE the background you created; it's remarkable! Your stamping of the leaves over the background really adds to the beauty. The floral image on the main panel is gorgeous in the colors of the challenge! Barbara, I LOVE your card!
