The shores of Cape Cod are dotted with Crab and Lobster shacks where fishermen store their gear. Many are made of barn board, which turns pretty, rustic colors from the sea salt, and moss on the north side. They often have them decorated outside with all sorts of nautical objects. I created a barn board background using the tutorial Karen (k dunbrook) generously shared here: http://snippets-karen.blogspot.ca/20...-tutorial.html. It's super easy and fun and you can use a variety of colors. I once bought a whole paper pad just to get 2 barn board pieces - now I can do any color combo I want.
My fault line is black and the round portion houses my crab.
Thanks, Karen for sharing your wonderful tutorial!

Fabulous! It reminds me of one of the summer holiday cottages we used to stay in, with wood-lined walls and fisherman landing crabs and lobsters on the pier just outside. That glossy crab shell is just gorgeous.

Wowza!!! You did such an amazing job on the faux woodgrain technique shared by Karen!! I've tried two so far and mine have not looked anything close to this!! I also had to laugh about purchasing paper pads for just one or two sheets...done that!! Super job Priscilla!!
