Marie (momof5sons) has given us a fun story this week about Gertie Gussie from Gainsville. Gertie has lost her drivers license for a little while so Buster the local crop duster, has offered to fly Gertie around the village so she can keep looking after all the towns folk.
Our cards are going to Connie Jo9. Connie is the sister of our very own Mutnik (aka Cathy), I guess that kind of makes Connie, Curt's auntie. We are to bring bright and happy cards and send some sunshine to cheer Connie up.
I had a little tidy up recently and found an A4 pad of water colour paper so I decided to create a bright beach scene. I must say that the watercolour paper is very forgiving and will take a lot of paint and water. It even holds up to a bit of light scrubbing (until the paper starts to flake off in chunks). I know all this because I had a little accident...
The background was done by applying watered down acrylic paint to paper, sprinkle cous cous, allow to air dry and soak up some of the paint (MIX81 challenge). I did the bottom half for the sea in a rich blue and the sky in a very light blue. It was at this point I had a little mishap.... I knocked over a glass of water than I had been soaking paint brushes in (green paint). It went all over the light blue area. I got heaps of the colour off however it no longer looked like a beach background.
Plan B - turn the paper upside down, purposely add more green and do an aerial scene instead of a beach scene. The ocean is now the sky, I added a yellow circle for the sun and a few die-cut clouds and a hand drawn banner. Job done and back on track for Connie.
Gertie and Buster are Art Impressions acrylic stamps. I coloured them with a combination of Copics, distress inks and Wink of Stella brushes. The little city in the background is a RAK stamp from our sweet Miss Kathleen Lammie from Alabama. The garden at the front is an acrylic stamp by IndigoBlu. Lots of liquid pearls were added and flicks and dots with a white sharpie paint pen.
Thank you for looking and have a great week ladies. P.S. Mail seems to be taking forevahhhhh between Aus and the US but this is on the way.

Cute! Gertie and Buster look to be having a grand time tearing around the springtime Australian countryside! Connie is sure to be thrilled to receive this fun filled adventure of a creation, Susie! She has to read your description, that's half the fun!

I love this. It's so much fun with those vibrant colors and these intrepid adventurers....
Your background turned out to be a happy accident, but sometimes I think your name should be Susie Tenacious. I'm pretty sure I would have set background #1 aside and started over, but you had a real "make it work" moment here and made it a winner. (And there was a MIX challenge involving couscous??? I totally missed that one!)

Your little "mishap" turned into something wonderful - my little mishaps don't turn out like this! Mine are called disasters. Love that stamp and the looks on the faces. Giggle. What fun "seniors" get up to. Giggle

What an inventive masterpiece -great looking couple in the plane, and your scene is wonderful.
I am glad to see that you are still surviving mishaps - what a great result from a near disaster.

Susie, only you could tell a story like this, about turning a card "upside down" to cover a mishap! Does that come from living"down under" - I wonder?
Your cards are always so full of life - and mischief ! Gertie and Buster are really on a wild adventure there and this card will really be appreciated - Connie is used to 'wild and crazy' from her sis, Mutnik, and your card certainly fills the bill. I love the way you add so many interesting things to complete the scenes on your cards. Remember, there are no mistakes in stamping, only opportunities for more creativity!! Hugs!

LOL at Connie being Curt's aunt! And who but you could turn a beach scene into this amazing rural birds-eye view. I just love all the greenery along the bottom with the gel pen highlights.
