Historically I have had some epic fails when trying almost all the crayon techniques Lydia proposed as possibilities for yesterday's MIX65 Back to Kindergarten challenge. In fact, just on Thursday I had a total fail at using white crayon to act as a resist.
So I thought I would really go back to Kindergarten with this - crayons scribbled on card and painted over with black paint. But instead of scratching my design into the black paint, I embossed the card with a Paisley ef and sanded it.
I took my paisley design and (under all the black!!) my colour palette of pink, yellow and orange from this wrist wallet for today's IC challenge.
After making my base piece, I used the crayons again on some white card and stamped the sentiment and paisley with StazOn. Looking in my diecut box for a punched flower I thought would go, I found this butterfly, so I added a body made from wire and gems.
I like the way the resist technique works with the sentiment - under all that black paint is colour if we just dig down to find it, and in the end that's why I thought the butterfly would work even better, with more symbolic meaning, than a flower. So thanks for getting me to scratch the surface a little with this challenge, Lydia.

Awesome sentiment and cool technique!! After reading about the paint, I am extra impressed that you got the paper to lie so perfectly flat!! Beautiful card!!

This worked out beautifully! You made a scratchboard! Your adapting it to crayons was a clever idea.
Lovely card!

This is awesome! I love the colors showing through the paint - they pop like crazy! Your idea of embossing and sanding was pure genius.
