My inspiration for this portrait came from the inspiration challenge we were given for this month.
I first embossed the outline of a vase, I then did a reverse mask and embossed the center of the vase with the floral stamp used for the flowers. Two different floral stamps were used for the flowers. I embossed them on a separate piece of watercolor paper, watercolored them, let them dry and then did a lot of delicate cut out work using papersnips and a craft knife. I arranged the flowers in the vase and on the lower right corner of the card and then adhered them. I just had to throw in that small leaf on the lower left side, it almost looks like it's floating to the ground.
I felt like something was missing from the image and it finally came to me to use a small bee. My favorite bee is from Serene Sunflowers. After locating my beloved bee, I stamped and embossed him three times with black EP. I very delicately cut him out so as not to lop off his tiny legs and antennae. I adhered the bees on dimensionals, placing two around the upper floral area and one on the lower flower.
I wanted to color the vase black; I've never used black before in my coloring and it was a challenge to keep the color black and not burgundy, as black tends to turn a deep red when introduced to water. The portrait's dimensions are 6 x 8 1/2. I know if doesn't look like it, but this picture took eight hours to complete.

Your card is Fabuous! It is worth every minute of your time. I work at snails pace and this one would have taken me a few day just to figure it out. This is a treasure!!!

These colors just take my breath away! The depth and realism are incredible. If this was mine I'd frame it forever. I can see how it would take 8 hours!!!
