A couple of my stamping friends and I decided to make cards for wounded soldiers through Operation: Quiet Comfort - http://www.operationquietcomfort.com/ See this thread for more details: Forums at Splitcoaststampers We each made six cards. This is my small attempt to express my gratitude for their service, courage and sacrifice.
This is basically a CASE of a Lasting Impressions display card I saw in a stamp store a few years ago, which is why I bought these brass stencils. It felt good to do dry embossing again. This is mostly the applique technique, where a design is blind dry embossed (using the Empressor tool and the stylus) on different colors of cardstock and then cut out and assembled. I added a little heat embossing too - gold EP on the already dry embossed "America" and detail clear EP for the "with Gratitude" over Brilliant Blue craft ink. There are dimensionals under the sentiments and the blue star.
For the Kraft cardstock layer I used JanTInk's "Frosty Background" technique: Frosty Background Snowflakes by JanTInk at Splitcoaststampers . I think it can look like leather too! I brayered Creamy Caramel onto the crumpled wax paper and then onto the Kraft cardstock, and added some splatters from the Close to Cocoa marker with my spritzer tool. I also edged the layer with gold using the Zig Painty pen.

What a lovely card for a wonderful cause -- I am sure so many soliders will be touched by the kindness of you and your friends. I also like that reading your descriptions is like getting multiple tutorials all rolled up in one -- again, thanks for the tips and links -- love that you do that!!! A great patriotic card!!!

You know, they look like die cuts--pretty clever! As usual, there's a lot more going on here than meets the eye at first. There's a heartfelt message conveyed in this card, too, and it will be appreciated.
