Pop top container made from a fruit can. This view shows the decorated front. The ribbon was white, dyed with old olive reinker. Unfortunatley, I got a little heavy on the reinker, tinting the ribbon too dark. To make:Find a can that has a *squared* bottom rim--If the can has a rounded bottom rim made that way for easy stacking, it won't work for this project. Anyway, take the can, flip it over and open the bottom end with a saftey can opener ($8 Walmart). Clean and decorate to your liking. I figure you can fill it with just about anything-candy, gift cards, money, small stuffed animal, etc. Next, I want to take this design and make it into a card. Tip: try and put your seams in the back, and if more than one layer, offset layers so that they don't all meet at the same spot, 'cause it makes for a distracting flaw.

Hi,
I'm experimenting with the pop-top cans and can't seem to get the bottom back on after filling it. I read somewhere (of course I can't find it now!) that you just hot glue the bottoms back on, but I'm having a heck of a time with it. I've tried hot glue (burned my finger!) and low temp glue, but the bottom doesn't seem to want to fit snugly. If I wait a few minutes for the glue to set up, and then try to test the hold, the lid comes off in my hand. What am I doing wrong??
