Hi everyone, I have been MIA for several months due to COVID including a stay in hospital - so it was good for my soul to make a card - my first since Christmas. This is also my card for the SCS Free for All Friday F4A631 Challenge of 'Birds' where we are adding a bird or birds to our cards! This was from a year ago but there are no time limits to play SCS Challenges. Please see this link for the details on the Challenge ---> F4A631 - 3/25/22 - Free as a Bird by ohmypaper! at Splitcoaststampers
We have alot of birds that visit my (Australian) garden - including lorikeets, rosellas, kookaburras and cockatoos - so my camera is filled with bird images including one Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo we have dubbed Kevin. He is friendly and not destructive (unlike other ones) and will eat from our hand and let us pat him. I love to make cards with our Aussie birds as they bring alot of joy into our lives.
The main Cockatoo image is from the Couture Creations - Sunburnt Country - Ephemera set. I layered the image onto olive green and buttercream cardstock. The green was diecut using my Big Shot and Stampin' Up Deco Labels Framelits dies (retired). The next die down was too small for the main image so I drew around the outside of the die and handcut it from the buttercream cardstock.
The designer papers are by Couture Creations - Sweeping Plains - from their 6" x 6" pad. The colour palette in the Sunburnt Country and Sweeping Plains are quite similar so you can mix and match some of the elements.
The fancy border at the bottom was made using a Martha Stewart Doily Lace edge punch. I added some Wink of Stella clear glitter brush to the wattle (yellow ball-like flowers) around the cockatoo which isn't visible in the photo but it does look very pretty in real life. It's amazing how just a little bit of sparkle can lift a card!
The sentiment I found on my desk and is from a Kaisercraft 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" pad as they have sentiments in the back of those pads. I was using a couple of different ones late last year but I don't know which one it is from. I was pleased that I found it as it was serendipitous that the grey colour toned so well with the rest of the card. I layered it onto buttercream cardstock using a Lifestyle Nesting Circle die. I punched some tiny hearts from a scrap of pale pink designer paper using my EK Success Arrows border punch - which, if you are no stranger to my cards, I use all the time. The leftover punchies look like tiny hearts to me 😉 I added some Wink of Stella Clear glitter brush to them to add a little sparkle.
All the other layers were trimmed to 1/8" using my Perfect Layers Tools.
Lastly, I added some yellow enamel dots which are by Simple Stories - Good Day Sunshine which I have had for years and long-retired.
I gave this card to my daughter who is (like the sentiment says) - my fave person.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear you have been ill but glad you are back and able to post this lovely creation! I love birds as well and have several feeders that are a source of great enjoyment. The way you supported your main image with the layered die cuts and sweet border looks fabulous. Great card!
This is so gorgeous! I love birds as a theme on cards! Your papers are all so pretty together! In the past, I have done the same thing and found a past challenge thinking it was recent. But I love that we can play any challenge at any time here at SCS! I am so sorry that you had covid so severely that you had to stay at the hospital! Boo. So very glad to see you here and so glad you are feeling better!
