I must admit, when I read the Nutcracker ballet-inspired challenge, I kind of cringed. I just do not like nutcrackers. To me, they simply look creepy. So I googled images of the Nutcracker ballet for other ideas. I finally decided to take the tulle skirts on the ballerinas' dresses as my inspiration.
I used an argyle paper for my background. To do the strips, as in the sketch I followed, I cut 1/4" wide strips from red cardstock. I adhered them to the panel with 1/8" double-sided tape, following the pattern of the diamonds & spacing my strips 1-5/8" apart each way.
I cut a strip of white tulle, folded it in half lengthwise, & used a needle & thread to do a running stitch along the long raw edge. I didn't stitch the ends, since they would show in the finished card. I then pulled both ends of the thread to gather the tulle into a circle. The square in the sketch is about 2-1/2" wide/tall, so I made the diameter of my ruffled circle about that measurement.
I stamped my greeting onto a scrap of white cardstock, & punched it with a scalloped circle punch.
I used a dollop of hot glue to glue my tulle to the card front. Once that set up, I used more hot glue to stick down the greeting over the center of my tulle ruffle. Finally, I mounted my card front to a white card base.
