The bearded iris were my mothers favorite flowers, and all of her children knew it! I willingly accompanied her to Flower Shows where she often competed. I have quite a few that were transplanted by her when we bought this house decades ago.

Thought I would share a memory that came after posting this. Was probably about 14 and attending a judged show of the local Iris Society and at least 3 breeders approached me to ask WHY did I smell many entries. I said I smelled the ones I thought were the most beautiful - but if they stink or do not smell at all WHAT IS THE POINT because flowers should smell good. One reaction seemed to tell me they were cross breeding only for looks, so maybe my teenage bluntness improved what you now can buy. Maybe LOL.
