Well, I watched the vid last Wednesday - and again today. Usually When the artist uses MASKING FLUID, I just work without it BUT this time I was determined to buy some and figure out how it works.
First - nobody warns you HOW BAD this stuff SMELLS!!
It was trial and error to figure out how much to apply and how long to let it dry as there are no directions on the fluid . . . It did peel off quite easily but took all the pencil sketching with it, so pretty much guessed where I had drawn the body segments.
Since for me, this was about learning how to use masking fluid, I skipped the whole tracing thing and just added a bit of doodling (yes, I said the D Word) with a blue & gold pen. finished by spattering Sunflower Gold Twinks, die cut and sponged around my piece with black for a bit more definition.
It will definitely take me a few more tries to get the hang of this stuff!

I have two brands and one is a goopy mess, the other is Daniel Smith and it seems to be a little thinner but, I let mine sit 24 hours with the fluid on before I start painting. ( its warmer in your neck of the woods so, you may be able to go sooner) I Love that you sketched this, it is so gorgeous Linda

I like how you take one main technique from the challenges and concentrate on it. This week being the masking fluid. I have a cheap bottle from walmart that dries pretty quickly, but it is hard to apply. Your sketching and painting are outstanding!!!! Love the background you created for the dragonfly with its very realistic grass. Happy you had time to do this challenge and create this terrific painting. Oh, yes you sure have the hang of that dreaded doodling. (:

Wow, you sketched this? I got a chuckle from your post too. The part where you splatter that stuff gets me every time. As I worked all my fluid came off. I BOW to you for doing not only the fantastic sketch but turning out a fantastic card in the process.. Love the blends of greens on your grasses!

Oh, wow! Linda, this is just gorgeous. The dragonfly is a beauty. Well, the grass and sky, also. About the masking fluid, I like it but haven't used it in a while. I do like to use it, though. I love peeling it off and seeing what it gave me. I agree about the smell. Oh, and I like your framing.
