This card was made for my brother whose birthday is in March. I was inspired by a card challenge that required the use of primarily green, and also asked that we use plaid in our design.
I started out with a green plaid from Stampin' Up's (SU) "Wrapped in Plaid". The problem was that the 6"x6" plaid pattern paper had vertical and horizontal pattern, and I wanted it to be diagonal. So I cut a 4"x 5-1/4" rectangle out of it, but that cut out the corners of the design. So, I used the scraps and pieced all four corners back onto the panel, matching up the lines and gluing them on the back,,, so I doubt if you can even tell they are pieced!
The sentiment was stamped in black using SU's "Piece of Cake" set. My brother has a funny sense of humor so I thought this fit him quite well. The cake is from the same stamp set. I colored it with two shades of green Copic markers. It was then die cut out using SU's "Stitched Nested Labels" dies. I chose them because their design too has angles that matched the pattern paper. I cut a slightly larger mat from gold foil to match the gold stripes in the paper. The matted sentiment was mounted to the card front using foam tape for added dimensional interest.
I am rating the difficulty of this car as a "2" out of a possible "5". With the dies, it made it super simple. The only real challenge was piecing the corners of the front panel to match. I'm sure he'll like his 2022 card!
