I attended a Christmas card class at the end of September. It was my Stampin' Up duos annual holiday event and it was so nice to see friends of old! I'm always looking for more Christmas cards, so I was only too happy to attend!
As always when I see a finished card sample, my creative edit mode kicks in with ideas to include and things to change that might make the card more me. It's not that I don't like the original design; it just means that I cannot curb myself to just make the card as is...my bad??!!
This original design is by Dar Peterson, and I loved this sweet Christmas card. I contemplated adding red foil instead of Real Red cardstock, but ultimately, my only change was to add red rhinestones for a little bling: 3 to the upper left and 2 to snowflakes. I added my own verse and inside design.
Playing my Challenge Catch-up cardmaking, I found an amazing 17 SCS challenges to enter my card into, including one of the current VSN Mini challenges!
1) DEC21VSNMINI2 - Virtual Stamp Night---December 2021/ TV Guide Color Challenge...in keeping with the original TV Guide magazine's cover colors, create a project using red, white & one other color. My third color is Crumb Cake.
2) AOCC21 - All Occasion Card Challenge/ November 2021 - 11/1/21. Monthly challenge to encourage you to set goals ahead for each month to help you complete and mail your cards timely! This card will be added to my 2021 Christmas card stash!
3) USEIT2021 - Use It Challenge/ November 2021 - 11/1/21. This is an ongoing/ annual challenge requiring you to use old, long unused items gathering dust AND/OR old/ new items purchased but seemingly forgotten...never opened or used! NEW/NEVER USED: Using brand new 3D embossing folder + stamp/ die sets that I've had for about a month!
4) CT0721 - Fan Club Monthly Themes/ July 2021 - Come Fly With Me - 7/15/21. It's Christmas in July, and my card theme is to fit the Central Theme with Santa flying with his reindeer!
5) SC833 - Sketch Challenge - 12/23/20. Sketch Tweaked: I rotated card orientation to Landscape (instead of Portrait). I rotated #3 and #4 to horizontal...#4 is represented by my Santa Sleigh tag and #3 is the greeting, as required below Santa's Sleigh.
6) WT820 - Ways to Use It Challenge/ Tag - 11/26/20. I used a tag as a frame for my Santa & his sleigh.
7) CC803 - Color Challenge/ Whispering to You, Have Some Real Cake! - 8/4/20. Whisper White, Real Red, Crumb Cake. Dessert: 3+ layers on your card. I have 4 layers including the Santa Sleigh Tag.
F4A539 - Free 4 All Challenge/ Create-A-Background - 6/19/20. No stamps allowed for the background...anything but a stamp and then add a die-cut to finish it off. My background was created by an embossing folder. I added a die-cut tag and die-cut Santa & His Sleigh.
9) IC738 - Inspiration Challenge/ Ferris Wheels and Carousels - 1/25/20. Found this inspiration: https://www.ferriswheelsandcarousels...-tea-mug.html][Believe Coffee & Tea Mug!]. Inspired by this cute mug with the Santa and his reindeer design.
10) SCSCCMAY19 - Fan Club Christmas Challenges/ Good Ole Jolly Rides - 5/1/19. Use Christmas rides...sleighs, ice skates, sleds, etc. Santa is having fun with his sleigh.
11) S2S19HH - Stamp 2 Save (aka Stamp 2 Support One Another)/ Tags - 8/29/19. My tag die-cut is used to frame the Santa Sleigh die-cut!
12) ABC10R8 - Alphabet Challenge--Round 10/ Letter R - 10/17/19. R = Reindeer...Santa's Reindeer. Did not try for dessert.
13) CAS561 - Clean & Simple Challenge/ Tag It! - 11/25/19. Create a tag and use it on a card. My tag is the Santa Sleigh.
14) MMTPT542 - Teapot Challenge/ Modern Technology - 12/11/18. Theme: In keeping with the date of this challenge, which is National APP Day, short for software applications, make a card that might bring to mind modern cell phone technology. I'm late to the party so this card...A Christmas card, will go to a family member who is quite handy with modern day technology. Inspiration for card...the thought: In this modern day, do you think Santa has a cell phone to keep in touch with the North Pole?
15) MIX305 - Mixed Media Challenge/ Snowflake Time - 11/30/18. I embossed snowflakes onto the card front (half way). Add rhinestones to snowflake centers to make them sparkle. Mediums: added texture w/embossing folder, stamping pigment ink for sentiment, printer ink for inside verse.
16) FS603 - Featured Stamper Challenge/ Check Out Mandy Stacey - 8/26/18. I was inspired by the Christmas theme, Kraft & white combo, the white embossed background, snowflakes and the tag idea from this card: Embossed So Very Merry! I kept all the inspiring ideas, but turned my card horizontal, added red with the tag, ribbon, rhinestone embellies, and card-front-stamped sentiment.
17) CCC18FEB - Christmas Card Challenge/ Santa & His Reindeer! - 2/1/18.
Ingredients: Stampin' Up products: Cardstock--Crumb Cake, Real Red, Basic White. Pattern Paper--Tidings of Christmas dsp. Stamps--Peaceful Deer (sentiment). Dies--Giving Gifts; Tailor Made Tags, So Many Snowflakes. Ink--Real Red. Embossing Folder: Wintry 3D. Red Rhinestones. Ribbon--Playful Pets (red); White Cotton twine. Chatterbox inside verse. Size: 4-1/4 x 5-1/2-inches.
NOTE-11/27/21: I just found another card on Pinterest by Cindy Brumbaugh that is very similar to this with a few tweaks. It was made about 5 weeks before Dar's; Dar's uses a different sentiment and ribbons; but I suspect they should each be given credit for this card design, thus I am doing so. My rhinestone additions were a different twist not on either card.
