And Sketch Saturday Challenge #684 (https://sketchsaturday.blogspot.com/.../week-684.html) which challenged us to go back to their archive of sketches. I went all the way back to the Sketch #268 from May 2013 where they had a star shaped card.
While my card might at first look daunting, it's really only a single piece of A2 (8-1/2"x 5-1/2") dark blue cardstock with angled sides cut off on the left and right sides of the card base. I've found at least 3 tutorials on how to do this star easel card. Most of them are British, so measurements are in metric. I'll provide the link to all three, as well as give measurements for the different card layers here.
If you are going to make an A2 card with three layers you will need the following:
- Card base cut to 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"
- Foil matting cut to 4"x5-1/4"
- Two pattern papers cut to 3-3/4"x 5"
Please note that if you choose to make your card with 2 DIFFERENT pattern papers you will have enough triangular pieces left over to make a SECOND card.
REALLY think through where your pattern papers are going to go if they have any direction to their patterns. Also, be VERY careful that you cut your triangles from the right corner... IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The video tutorials explain from which corner each cut is made, but to help you visualize what you are doing, look at the four pieces you are going to be attaching your triangles to and visualize which way the triangle needs to run before cutting. You'll save your beautiful pattern papers from wastage but thinking each cut through before you make it (ask me how I know :-)
For my card, I chose to continue the theme of "stars" and used the Stampin' Up! (SU) "Stitched Stars" dies and their retired "Brightly Gleaming" copper foil elements. The smallest star was attached with foam tape to raise it above the lower star. Likewise, I attached the entire star assembly to the two crossed star pattern pieces using foam tape.
The sentiment is from the SU "Poinsettia Petals" stamp set. It was stamped on white cardstock, trimmed with a paper trimmer to 3/4", then I used the SU "Banners Pick-A-Punch" to create the flag tails. The sentiment piece was also attached with foam tape.
Note also, that while the card base is an A2 size, you will need an envelope that is at least 5-1/2"x7" to mail it. This card is really pretty to be displayed on a mantel or window ledge.
I am rating the difficulty level as a "3" out of a possible "5". However, if you don't pay attention to the corners and which was you are cutting your triangles, it could easily escalate to a "5"!!! Just think your way through those cuts!.
