I’ve used this technique for many years, here is another Demonstrator showing how:
In US terminology, my jig is 1-1/2 inches wide x 3 inches, it takes about 8 inch lengths of ribbon and I do not remove the ribbon from the jig until AFTER the ends are trimmed by the pockets.
I have made jigs of all widths, but this one is my favorite size. It works great with Bakers Twine, as well - triple it in appropriate lengths - 8 inches x3 - then tie a small knot at both ends so you can use as one piece. When you trim the ends you cut off the knots in the Twine.

Edited to add: I also used my closed-end tweezers to manipulate the ribbon through the knot
