This card was made for a sketch challenge that had two squares overlapped so one was a diamond.
I right away thought of the beautiful Stampin' Up! (SU) "Simply Succulents" stamp set with matching dies. I imagined the background being a brick wall.
To create the wall, I pressed the tan ink pad the inside of the brick embossing folder so that the "mortar" lines would be inked the most. I then pressed a 4-1/2"x6" piece of tan cardstock inside the folder. I used this unconventional size cardstock because it was the longest piece that would fit inside the folder (although I could have run it through in two steps if I wanted it even longer). The standard A2 size was just too small for the two squares in the design to fit proportionately. I like how the folder also randomly makes some of the bricks a bit darker tan.
To create the two square frames I used a pair stitched square dies fitted one inside the other using two different shades of green cardstock that were different than the four shades I used for the succulent plants. One square frame was turned 45 degrees as an offset.
The succulents were easy to stamp and die cut. I used Copic markers to add shading to create more of a three dimensional look to the succulent leaves. For the "string of pearls" and aloe plants I also added Glossy Accents to make them more realistic. The dark green plants on the right were stamped using the largest stamp in the set, then this particular plant was fussy cut from the rest of the mixed succulents stamp to the size I needed for the pot. The pot was stamped using the gray ink onto gray cardstock, then shaded with the violet Copic marker and die cut out.
I first glued the succulent plants onto the pot, then put foam tape on the back of the pot and plants to attach them to the card front inside the diamond die cut.
The brick panel was then glued to a 6-1/4"x4-1/2 piece of SU Just Jade mat allowing the top and bottom to show, then blued to the 6-1/2"x4-3/4" Tranquil Tide card base.
I was tempted to go ahead and add a sentiment across the lower part of the card, but decided to wait until I had the occasion for sending it to someone since it can be either a masculine or feminine card. It would be appropriate for a birthday, special occasion or even a sympathy card determined by the sentiment you attach.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" (unless you are a very experienced paper crafter). This is due to all the steps, choice of colors, and handling of small pieces.
