This card was made for a challenge that required the use of a "word bubble". The optional part of the challenge was to include something related to summer vacation... but since there hasn't been any summer vacations in 2020 and possibly 2021, I thought I'd instead create a "get well" card for someone who had to get through COVID-19.
I started by using a giraffe print from Stampin' Up! (SU) designer series paper (DSP) called "Go Wild". The spaces between the spots were white, and I wanted them more yellow and splotchy, so used a blending brush to first apply a yellow, then a peach to make the spaces yellow, and the tan more "craft" color to go along with the mat.
Next, I stamped the giraffe using a dark brown ink, the scanned him with my Brother ScanNCut and cut him out with a 0.04" border. Without removing the mat, I placed another piece of white cardstock down on the cutting mat and cut two more shapes (not stamped) from the same scan as the original so that I would have two extra cutout outlines. I used these to stack and glue behind the original stamped image to give it depth on the card front. I then colored the giraffe with Copic markers.
The word bubble was stamped using the SU "Point & Click" set. It was the perfect size for the sentiment from the giraffe stamp set. I stamped both the word bubble and the sentiment using black ink. I scanned and cut out this on my digital cutter.
Finally, to create the easel card, I cut top folding card base that was 4-1/2"x 11", and scored at 5-1/2". Then to create the easel portion, I scored one side of the base at 2-3/4" and folded it down so you sort of have a lower case "r" shape. I applied glue to the short 2-3/4" section and placed the giraffe front on top of the card front so that the BOTTOM of the giraffe panel was lined up with the glued section of the card base. There are several tutorials online that offer photo and video steps to do this if my explanation isn't easy to understand.
To create the piece on the inside of the card that forms the "stopper" for the easel portion to rest against, I simply cut 3 strips of brown craft cardstock that fit across the card width, glued them together as a stack (so they stood high enough to form a nice stopper for the giraffe piece) then glued the stack on the inside of the card about 1-1/2" from the bottom of the inside back. I then stamped my second sentiment on a piece of white cardstock that was 3/4" tall and the same width as the card, and glued it centered over the brown "stopper". There is plenty of room on the inside of the card to write a personal message.
I am rating this card as a "2" out of a possible "5" because easel cards are so simple to make. It's only what you choose to put on the card front that may make the card a more difficult challenge. If you don't have a digital cutting machine, you can fussy cut out the giraffe and word bubble.
