This card was made for two challenges focused on St Patrick's Day. One required a St. Patrick's Day theme, and the other required the use of plaid or tartan patterns.
I had seen a great tutorial by Sandi McIver on gatefold shutter cards (https://sandimaciver.com/gatefold-sh...ard-tutorial/). I wanted to try her technique, and decided it would be perfect for my card. Since her tutorial is extremely good, I'm not going to repeat it here. I urge you to go to her blog and check it out.
I decided to make my card base a dark blue to match the blue in some plaid pattern paper I have from Stampin' Up! (SU). All the shutter iris mechanisms inside the card are also the dark blue.
I started by stamping the Irish poem "May the Road rise up to meet you..." that was in a shamrock shape onto white cardstock using black ink. Then stamped over it with the solid shamrock stamp using SU "Tranquil Tide" ink. I stamped off the ink on a scrap piece of paper since I didn't want the image to be too dark to read the poem underneath.
The sentiment inside the card that shows when the shutter opens is from a 1993 SU stamp set called "More Great Greetings". Yes, I'll admit that I NEVER throw or sell/give any of my stamp sets away!!!
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5". It requires some careful measuring, but if you have been stamping for even a short while you'll be able to follow Sandi's instructions. Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!
