This is a great project for using scrap papers. I used mainly inky and watercolor scraps, but you can use patterned paper too. Die cut hexagons from scrap paper. Stamp them with a background stamp using a tone-on-tone colored ink. Stamp small sentiments and images on the tiles.
Arrange the tiles on the background and glue them down. Die cut a sentiment.
