Our Free for All challenge this week is to be inspired by a song. Full details can be found HERE.
Even without my upload title, you probably guessed it. Along with missing family, friends and real shops, I am still missing my mojo. I was trying to make a special card for my wonderful SIL's 60th birthday, Lady in Red is my DB and SIL's "song".
I couldn't get the proportions right, so I decided to keep the Lady in Red for myself and put her in my journal. She is stamped on cartridge drawing paper, then coloured with pencils. To add a bit of dimension I also stamped her on copy paper and paper-pieced her hair and trim on the bodice.
Her skirt was made on cardstock using a red gellato crayon and long, sweeping swipes with a baby wipe. To add some depth I applied every shade of red water colour paint I own.
The shadows were created by making mountain folds and dragging a walnut stained distress ink foam tool on the fold lines, then reverse the fold so it becomes a valley fold. The same technique was used on the left side of her bodice (hard to see in the photo).
The background was made using Amsterdam acrylic inks and water. Gesso the double pages, then in a little dish I combined a few drops of black and cyan acrylic ink and diluted it with an equal amount of water. I brushed some of the mixture onto the journal, squirted more water, then moped up the remainder of colour from the dish with a baby wipe, and randomly rubbed it on the pages.
I also squirted a bit of black Dylusions ink and lots of water on the right hand page, then shut the book and rubbed it for a minute.
On the right hand page I added some stenciling using silver paint and my finger, then I closed the book again so the paint could smear on the other page. I continued to do this (and get the paint off my stencil at the same time) until it looked like outer space (for a while there I was thinking of making my Lady in Red, into Lucy in the sky with diamonds).
I finished by adding a gazillion Stickles and adhering Lucy to the page, I didn't add glue to the lower half of her skirt (or plait). To get the rippled effect on her skirt, I lightly misted the back of the skirt with water then very slowly tore the excess cardstock away and scrubbed in on a bit more walnut stain distress ink.
It's back to the drawing board for me, I still have a 60th birthday card to make. Thank you for looking, I hope you get a chance to join in.
Take good care and stay safe.

"I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight,
I've never seen you shine so bright, you were amazing....Lady in Red I Love You." And, I do. She is stunning. The red just jumps right off the page and the coloring is both bright and sublime. The bg looks simple, but it's not..so much texture and details. Lucy in Red in the Sky in Diamonds is one gorgeous gal!
