I got the inspiration for this card from this one by Julie Ebersole. My brother's birthday is coming up, & I thought this would be perfect, since he & my SIL have 2 dogs (not dachshunds, but I figure this is close enough for jazz!).
I don't have a dachshund stamp, so I looked online for a line-art image. I found this one at Clip Art Max. I opened the image in Photoshop after downloading it, & first flipped it horizontally. Since the image was only the outline, I also filled in the inside with white using Photoshop's Paint Bucket tool, to make it easier to work with. I created a new document, sized to 8-1/2x5-1/2", & copied the dog to that. I selected just the front half of the image with the Marquee tool, and moved that towards the left side of my card. I then selected & moved the hindquarters to the right side, leaving a large gap in the middle. I selected part of the dog image from behind his front legs, duplicated that, and positioned it so the left end matched up with the right side of the front part of the dog. I resized it to make it wider, so the other end would connect to the back end of the dog--creating a very long wiener dog. I did have to "clean up" the points where everything connected with the Eraser tool, since they didn't match up pixel-perfect, but that wasn't too bad.
I chose a font on my computer, and typed "hot diggety dog," which was the phrase Julie used in her card. I positioned the words above the dog's head, & turned them so they were at an angle, just for a more playful look. I used the same font for the "inside" sentiment that went across the dog's middle. Finally, I printed it onto a sheet of white cardstock, and trimmed that to 5-1/2" high. I drew the dog's eye with a black Micron pen.
I stamped the larger balloon from "The Party" onto a scrap of smooth bristol paper with Onyx Black ink. I used Forget-Me-Not to stamp the solid layer. There are no coordinating dies for that set, so I fussy cut the balloon, leaving a small white border. I "dyed" a long piece of white crochet twine with Jet Black Archival ink, by dragging the twine across the ink pad. It took several passes, but I finally got it coated. I tried setting the ink with my heat tool, but it wasn't drying fast enough, so I ended up just leaving it overnight. I also dyed a shorter piece of twine that I tied into a bow.
I stamped the hat (from "Monster Mash") with Onyx Black ink onto another scrap of bristol, and colored it with 2 Tombow markers. I die cut it with the coordinating die, & glued it on top of the dog's head.
I pierced 2 holes around the dog's mouth, threaded my dyed twine through those using a dental floss threader, and tied the twine in a knot. I opened my card (I had scored it by this time), and stretched the balloon string across. I adhered the end of the string to the back of the balloon with foam tape, and stuck the balloon to the card. Finally, I glued the bow onto the neck of the balloon with Ranger Multi Medium Matte. You can see the inside of the card at this post.
