This Fourth of July card was made by combining two different card challenges; one that specified the sketch layout, and the other that specified the red, white and blue colors. A perfect holiday combo since the sketch had a star on it!
I used a red and white background since it reminded me of the stripes, and then a blue circle with a white glitter star since it reminded me of a field of stars. I backed the star with a craft foam star cut with the
same star die to raise it up and add more dimension to the card.
It's hard to see, but I cut a blue foil circle using two sizes of dies to edge the the blue circle and give it more umph.
The sentiment was more of a challenge since the only 4th of July one I have is from a 1992 Stampin' Up! (SU) stamp set that was three lines of text. So I used my SU Stamparatus stamp alignment tool and a SU Stampin' Write marker to color first just the "Happy" and stamped it on a scrap of white cardstock, then inked the words "4th of" and stamped in a different part of the cardstock away from the first words to allow me space to die cut them separately. Then using a plastic grid, I aligned where I wanted the "July!" next to the "4th of" on the Stamparatus, and inked just those words and stamped to create a single line that read "4th of July!". I then used the SU "Word Window" punch to punch out the "Happy", and one of the banner dies from the SU "Bunch of Banners" die set to make the two rounded ends into banner flags. The sketch called for two different color sentiment strips, so I dragged my red ink pad over the one, and after die cutting out the send line of the sentiment, dragged the SU Marina Mist ink pad over it.
Both sentiment lines are raised up to be even with the foam-backed star using adhesive foam strips just on the left side of the strips.
As an added touch, since I felt the white vertical stripe was so plain, I used the simple line stitched die from the SU "Stitched Nested Labels" die set to add a subtle embossed edge to the white.
Since the colors and layout were already set by the two challenges, the only thing I had to do was figure out the details. So, I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5".
