I made this card for this week's MIX challenge. Ky is our hostess and she has a great challenge called "Find Your Way." Meaning, to use your stencils. Twist my arm, I love to use stencils so I had to play along.
A lovely SCS person sent me this butterfly die cut made out of ivory shimmer paper so I used it as my stencil today (I kept the die cut piece for another project). First, I sponged Tim Holtz Distress inks into the "stencil" in a rainbow manner, blending each color into the other. Then, leaving the stencil in place, I applied glimmer paste over the sponging. Carefully removed the die cut stencil and set both pieces aside to dry.
I spent a long time determine a card design for these butterflies, but in the end, this is what worked best. I wanted something different because I have been using this design quite a bit lately, but I guess if it works, it works.
I used a HOTP stencil to apply glimmer paste to a petal pink cardstock and set this aside to dry.
When all pieces were dry, assembled card. Stamped sentiment in Garden Party Ink, fussy cut out, and adhered to card front.
As I was getting up from my chair, I bumped my desk, knocking my card over....into a chocolate brown ink pad. Whaw! I used a sand eraser where I could, then decided I would have to add more butterflies to cover up the bad spots.
Out came some scrap yupo paper. I applied Tim Holtz alcohol inks in citron and mermaid and allowed this to dry. Then punched out the butterflies and adhered them to the card. I had a 3rd butterfly cut out, but I could not find a good place for him so he will wait for another project. I applied a gemstone to each butterfly body, and this did a pretty good job covering up my mishap. There is still some brown ink showing on the fold of the card by the sentiment, but it is not glaringly awful.
Thank you Ky for this wonderful challenge and thanks for looking! ~Karen.

This is so, so pretty, Karen. Love your pastel colors for your butterflies, and no sign of brown ink, that I can see. But I can sympathize! Love the look of extending more glimmer paste on the petal pink layer. The lime sentiment banner looks great where you put it!
