This card is to honour our Shelly, a friend on the Alpha thread and who is this week's Featured Stamper. Shelly has an amazing gallery to browse through.
Here is her card that I chose to case...I love mixed media and this caught my eye.
I'm also putting my card against a couple of Mixed Media challenges and the alpha challenge for S = Shelly.
I read Shelly's instructions on how she had made her card and thought yep I can do this. I did but why is it that someone else's card looks so good and after 2 hours I am still trying to make mine look close to ok. I am a perfectionist and my own worst critic, and in hindsight I wish I had run with the same colours that Shelly chose.....however having said this I am happy with my efforts and loving the texture....and ooh the sparkle. Gosh you need sunnies to look at it IRL lol.
I stamped my image, masked it and the butterfly and decided instead of using my spray inks (first mistake) to use my Lindy's Magicals as they give off lots of sparkle in certain lighting. I didn't want to drop my card onto the Magicals so I decided to dab paint through the stencil using a paintbrush. As this card is also for the complimentary colour challenge I chose green and purple.
I then took another stencil and put ink through it...the dots. I decided at this stage to use my glitter gel and use the original stencil over it to give more sparkle. It left a glittery green and purple hue over certain areas.
Wanting more texture I run with my whipped spackle and push that through my stencil. I had glitter gel on the lady's skirt and hair but it is not showing well, so I start spackling...is that a word..it is in my dictionary lol...the skirt and her hair. It is very lumpy.
Out comes the wink of stella pens and I'm mixing purple and using green and whatever I can on the skirt and in the hair. I'm also tracing around the image to give it more definition. I'm spackling the wings too and end up going over them with clear wink of stella. Beware...make sure your inks are dry first as it can get a little muddy but I'm ok with the effect.
I end up distressing the edges and add more definition with my charcoal pencil to the image before stamping more small images out of the same stamp set. Gosh I've used 4 stamps out of this set on this..whatever next lol.
Two things happen...the first was when removing my mask on the small butterfly I had covered part of the wing up with ink. No probs, I stamp and fussy cut out another, distress the edges and add gold and clear wink of stella and more sparkle. Pop it on and I am liking it. I have to have a butterfly somewhere if Shelly is to remember to fly lol, plus I didn't have room for a large sentiment as per her card.
It's done, dried and flattened and I take a photo when I notice it's not straight. Doh! Off I start pealing it and eek...I stuff up. There is an error on there but I am leaving it for now and will cover it up before I mail it. Hopefully you can't see it...now you all will go looking for it lol.
I had fun, but gosh I definitely am not a cardmaker. I am a messer...I like mixed media, I like lots of texture and sparkle and trying new things, but to make a card putting all this together on a card that I want to mail stresses me out lol.
Shelly, so happy for you. Enjoy every minute of your special week. I know you don't forget to fly but this lady is just a little mixed reminder. I hope you like it.
TFL. Happy week everyone

I love this, Jayne. I actually thought about casing that same one - the girl and the colors and designs are inspiring and your creation is inspiring too. Your flying girl/angel is wonderful and I love the words. Super cool!!!! Hugz
