I recently found the "Color Layering Partridge" stamp set on sale at Tuesday Morning. I bought it (it was about 1/3 of the original price--how could I not???), and found the coordinating dies at a shop on eBay. (Both are discontinued, so not readily available on the primary market.) I don't always get coordinating dies anymore, if an image is easy to fussy cut. But for this, I thought they were necessary. I couldn't find a wealth of card examples using this exact set online, but I did find this card through a Google search, & so got my inspiration from that. I have had the "Twelve Days" stamp set for a few years now, and so I thought this would be a good opportunity to use it!
I googled partridges, since I had no clue what colors they are. Turns out, they can be quite colorful, though also in shades of brown & grey. But, since it is holiday card crunch time, I decided to go with an easy combination, so kept mine neutral. I stamped the first layer in London Fog twice to get a good impression. I used Gray Flannel for the second layers, Walnut for the wing detail, Tuxedo Black for the face details, and finished with Yeti ink (double stamped) for the final line layer. I also colored a bit of the belly area on the final stamp layer with a brown Tombow marker, and stamped that over the white for a bit of contrast in that area. I actually die cut the bird after stamping all but the feet & topknot, so I could line those stamps up accurately. Then I finished by stamping those 2 parts.
I stamped the pears in Memento Pear Tart, Bamboo Leaves, & Olive Grove inks. These proved really easy to line up. I used the coordinating dies to cut them out.
For the background, I cut a piece of red cardstock to A2 size. I placed it in my MISTI, and lined up the "Twelve Days" images on the panel. After I had placed them, I picked them all up with the door of the MISTI and stamped with Versamark ink. I added music notes (from "Color Layering Partridge) in the empty spaces, just using an acrylic block, since they were so small and randomly placed. Finally, I embossed the background with Silver Pearl embossing powder. Then I die cut it with the second-largest "Postage Stamps" die.
I adhered my die cut background to a dark grey mat. I thought that color played well with the bird, and helped the images pop a little more. I glued down the partridge and pears.
For the greeting, I used one from the "Color Layering Partridge" set. I stamped it onto a scrap of vellum, and heat embossed it with Silver powder. I taped it in place on my background temporarily with some low-tack painter's tape, then punched 2 holes for eyelets with my Crop-a-Dile II. I set 2 pewter eyelets to attach the greeting, then removed the tape. I threaded grey & white baker's twine through the holes, and tied a bow. Finally, I adhered my card front to a white card base.
