My mom recently found out that a friend of hers has been having a series of tough events in her life. She asked me to make an encouragement card to send to her.
I stamped the image in Watering Can ink onto my watercolor paper, which I'd pre-cut to size. I painted it with my watercolors. To make the glass jar seem more transparent, after I painted it a light blue, I let that dry, then glazed over it with a pale version of the wall color for the upper part, & the table color for the bottom section. I made sure to go over the "Ball" word with a thicker consistency of paint and a fine-tip brush, to emphasize it. I also added white highlights on the jar & water with a gel pen.
I chose patterned papers in muted green & teal for the panels on the right side of the card. I combined the upper 2 angled panels in the sketch into one for my greeting panel, as that particular greeting fit perfectly in the space. I used the same Watering Can ink to stamp that.
The lower panels were somewhat tricky. I have made cards based on this sketch before, & no matter what, I always have to fiddle with & adjust the angled pieces. This time, I adhered the greeting panel first, then the green piece about 1/16" below that. I tried adhering the teal floral piece, but it was a bit too long. So I trimmed about another 1/16" off, and placed it in position. I did have to move the green panel slightly up, but thankfully had not pressed down on that to adhere it more permanently. After I got everything in place, I did make sure all panels were secure!
I also had to trim just a hair off my image panel, as it was that much too tall. But no big deal. Finally, I adhered it with strong double-sided tape, just to make sure it wouldn't go anywhere! I really like how this came out.
