This was the 2nd card I made for the current Technique Lovers Challenge, TLC731-Illusion with Embossing - 2/25/2019. The challenge was to stamp inside an embossing folder and then dry emboss that onto a piece of cardstock. Doing this gives the illusion of depth and fools the eye into thinking that the stamped image is tucked in back of the raised embossing. Pretty cool look when all goes as planned!
This challenge is deceptively simple. How hard can it be to stamp an image inside of an embossing folder, tuck a piece of cardstock inside and run it through a Big Shot? That part is easy, the hard part is figuring out how to make the image you are stamping appear in the appropriate areas in the final embossed piece. Oh, and I forgot to mention that it is a bit tricky to stamp on the inside of an embossing folder - the ink is slick and the stamp has a tendency to slide and the embossing folder wants to fold closed while you are doing this...and you have to get that piece of paper inside without smearing the ink before dry embossing.
After many additions to my trash bin, I ended up with this panel showing the stamped leaf fronds peeking through the embossed tree trunks. I had one smeared stamped image and I opted to cover it up with stamped/diecut leaves. The vellum sentiment is one I pulled from my stash. Years ago I printed different sentiments onto vellum and cut them into strips. I decided to tear the edges to make it more rustic looking and used my mini stapler to attach it to the edge.
I kept the rest of the card Clean & Simple, adding a Woodgrain texture panel, dry embossing the card base and the diecut leaves with the SU Subtle embossing folder for a delicate texture and finishing it off with a knotted bundle of Linen Thread to anchor the leaves.
It was kind of you to pop in and look at my second card for the embossed illusion challenge. Many thanks!

Susy, I love your beautiful card that reflects the technique and CAS challenges! That embossing folder seems to be the best for the technique. I love the additional leaves on the top left of the card.

I love this one with the green leaves and a lot of white. Beautiful! I did one of these a long time ago with pumpkins behind some trees. They are fun.

Grins, I did say in my tips that more solid stamps are harder! I tried with a Stampamajig so that I could ink several times and that was the one that never made it to a card for me, I reverted to outline images. But thinking now, I wonder if you used a SAMJ and stamped first with Versamark, that might cling to the folder better and then the coloured ink would have something to grab. I think you came up with some gorgeous cards to show for your time.

I just love the look of your "illusion and embossing" card. The leaves peeking from behind the birch tree trunks and the overlay leaf piece, as well, make such a lovely, lovely card!! Love the color combination as well!
