This challenge was serendipitous. On Thursday I had just made a bunch of rolling marble as well as shaving cream backgrounds showing one of my customers some fun things to do with her grandchildren and stamping for the summer. I pulled 5 double fronts out of the one inking I did of the shaving cream--each one fades a little as it progresses. The first one is rarely my favorite because the colors are too bold.
Funny fact--I really don't like pink very much. I had chosen Berry Burst because it doesn't scream pink at me, but as it faded, it quickly became very pink. Then I was stuck making pink cards. Guess I'm all stocked up on pink for awhile. This particular back ground was pulled last--the colors are faded (almost like a watercolor wash) and the marbling isn't very defined. I pulled out old Gable Green because the Lemon Lime Twist was way too bright for the background.
When I make a unique background like this, I don't like to cover it up with a lot of other stuff. I try to choose a design and stamps that complement rather than compete with the background.
For this card, I chose wanted to see if I could make realistic looking iced tea. On the window sheet, I used both Timber Brown and Pumpkin StazOn. I let it dry while I ate lunch then returned and added dimensionals at the top of the liquid--crowded together like ice cubes. This serves the purpose of holding the jar on the card as well as being faux ice. The string representing the tea bag is stuck to the dimensionals as well. The final part (that I didn't know if it would work or not) was putting Crystal Effects on all of the brown "liquid" area, carefully going around and between the dimensionals. (Long drying time because it was a big puddle.) It had the effect I wanted and gave the beverage depth.
Notice that it has been featured in the TLC twice. That's because it's just fun--everybody, whatever their ages always enjoy doing this one. Everyone gets a surprise in the end because it's really hard to control or predict the results.
