When I checked out the Mix-Ability (use Turquoise and Orange together), Ways to Use It (Bugs Life) and Free For All (fussy cutting) challenges this weekend, I thought it would be fun to combine them into one card, and decided to use the large Swallowtail stamp. Originally I thought I would create a turquoise watercolor background with an orange butterfly but decided to change things up and go the opposite direction. The end result - hmmm, still not sure this was the right choice but here it is!
After heat embossing the butterfly with white embossing powder, I colored it with 2 turquoise Zig markers and a waterbrush, then fussy cut it when dry. Next I worked on the background. I actually had 3 different watercolor washes going on 3 different types of watercolor paper and the rather unique, heavily textured recycled watercolor paper ended up looking the best. I layered two shades of orange watercolor as a wash on the paper to increase the color intensity, dried it with a heat tool then die cut it with the stitched scallop die.
The right side of the butterfly was trimmed down to fit on the card front, adhered with strong adhesive on the right side and foam tape under the left wing before mounting the entire panel on the card base. A few sequins were added to finish things off. No sentiment was added so it could be used for any occasion.
Thanks for so much for looking!
Stef

WOW! Stef, this is gorgeous! I love this butterfly, and your colors are fabulous. Just love the orange watercolor for the background and the turquoise for the butterfly. That's my favorite color! It's beautifully done and finished! I love it (and will most likely CASE it myself). Yes, it's a perfect card for any occasion. Stunning! Hugs, sweet friend! xoxo
