I think I rather went to town this afternoon on Lydia's Happy New Year MIXed media challenge to use a gold or silver metallic medium and at least one other.
On the way to work I was thinking that I would use the Leafing Pen resist technique from TLC234. I just use regular metallic pens and they still resist. So, I scribbled them on some watercolour paper, misted it well with water and then used blue Bister on it. When it was dry, I stamped and embossed the sentiment, and added Shabby White chunky ep - which has some gold in it. I edged the card with a black Sharpie and then black Stickles. Then I pulled out a round frame - gilding flakes burnished onto card covered with double-sided adhesive sheet, left over from another project which used the circle. In the frame I perched my bird, cut from a piece left over from TLC652, Ink Spritzer background. He has some golden shimmer already, but I enhanced it by embossing him and then rubbing luster rub-on from Craft-T over. The green foliage was cut from glitter card, and it has white Liquid Pearl berries interspersed among the fronts. Last thing was to dilute some very old gold Stickles which was no longer coming out the bottle, and gently spatter it over the open space within the circle. I had fun spattering it on a few other pieces from my scrap box too.

Sabrina, I absolutely adore this cheery hello card you have made. There are so many things to love about this card beginning with your bg which is a masterpiece. You use items I have never heard of before so I need to look those up (fun!). The gilded circle frame is such a delightful way to highlight your wonderfully embossed cardinal and pine branches. All the sparkle, shine, glitter and snow make for such a wonderful winter scene here. This is going right into my favs! ~Karen.

Your sparkles remind me of the icy weather some are receiving and the little bird still comes by to cheer us. Sweet.

Whoever coined the phrase "all that glitters is not gold" has not seen the creative process that goes on here . . . and I will have to go back to re-read your description and keep count of all the different gold (& silver) elements. I have never seen gilding flakes but love the effect on your scalloped frame and the glittered foliage looks like it has a light covering of frost on all it's needles - just gorgeous.

Wow! I love your card and really enjoyed reading all you did to result in this amazing scene! I really liked how you used the flakes on your circle! Must try that! I haven’t seen the gilding flakes in ages but I still have some and used them on the back of my acrylic today. Thanks for all the instructions, Sabrina!

The branches, the bird and the frame, all beautiful, come together on that fabulous background to make such a sparkly festive card! I love, love it! The diluted stickles is a genius idea!
