This was a card of trial & error . . . . . I made several backgrounds this morning - some didn't turn out at all - the 2 best were the blue rainbow with the zigzag stencil (now I kind of think they look like mountain peaks) and the kiwi/Blue piece with the stylized stalks of leaves. I die cut my trees from the kiwi piece and sponged just a bit of emerald over the edges for definition - glued the bigger one directly on my chosen bg - the smaller tree I mounted with foam tape and then topped each tree with a small star. Die cut my deer from tan cardstock, sponged a bit of brown on the edges and mounted with foam tape. The sentiment was one long piece so I used a stamp-a-ma-jig to make it fit where I needed it in 2 lines.
I was all ready to post my card but had the niggling feeling that something was amiss . . . . . I just didn't like how the deer looked . . . he looked, well, ODD and off-balanced . . . but I didn't know why - Then just as I was about to hit the submit button reality hit me - HE ONLY HAD 3 LEGS!!! So back I went to the craft room cut another leg - Thank heavens I had put my 3-legged beast on with foam tape so with a little juggling I could glue the 4th leg under my deer - retook my pics and voila . . .10 hours later I finally have a completed card - LOL cause there's no use being upset and in retrospect it was kinda funny!
P.S. This set actually comes with 3 deer but they only made the biggest one 3-legged - the smaller 2 have all four legs!

That is hilarious! I have cards that are like that, too! So glad you didn't have a wobbly deer! Your BG reminds me of our sunset we had tonight - it was so pretty!

Wow, Glad you included the 4th leg!! At least you had some success with this technique. Both of my efforts ended up in the trash, and I am usually a"make it work" kind of girl. LOL Love how the colors worked for you.

LOL!!! Linda, your story brought me laughter, which is great!! So glad you realized you had a 3-legged deer! I love the beautiful background and trees you created with the technique, and that poor injured deer is lovely!
You created a beautiful card, Linda!

I was so curious to read your write-up after seeing the title. But first of all I'm sorry you had such struggles with the technique. Personally I was delighted because I've had similar struggles to your saga with the "stamping with water" technique. I see beautiful samples in the gallery and no matter how much ink/watercolour I lay down to start with, I don't think I've ever got a good result. Whereas apart from my attempt with dies, this one worked well for me. I'm glad you persevered because the results are beautiful, especially with the pattern in the trees matching the winter background. And now I'm off to look at the die set and see how Spellbinders ever thought a 3-legged deer would work.

Awesome card! There are many times I do something and think 'that looks awful', so I set it aside and take a 2nd look the next day. Many times it looks much better then and I'm able to use it. Your story brought a smile to my face. It's always great to know that us crafters are all alike in critiquing our own work.
