I am from the area of Texas that was affected by Hurricane Harvey (which was a pretty massive area). Fortunately, I barely escaped getting rising waters in my home, but that was not the case in my neighborhood or surrounding area. Irma, you are not welcomed here.
Water did seep into my garage which meant we had to go through all the things we store in boxes and tubs in the garage. In one of those tubs were stamp sets that I had not used in a while but still did not want to get rid of. They were not damaged by the water, and I was reacquainted by the things I loved about these stamps. They have now been put in a place where I can get to them easier.
How timely that this is the challenge today, to use an oldie but goodie. This one was probably one of the first I ever purchased at the first SU party I ever went to back in 1997. And how timely that this little work glove is just the thing I have seen on all those loving and helping hands of volunteers, who have come from far and near to strip out wet carpet, padding, wet sheetrock, and throw out damaged items from the floodwaters. Thanks is not enough to express all that they have done for us here in the Houston and surrounding area. Thanks too for all the prayers that have been lifted for all of us in Texas and Louisiana from all our friends here on SCS. We join you now in praying for all of those in Florida and up the eastern coast. Our hearts are with you.

Wow, it made me smile to see this old favorite! I still have the stamps for the "stuff" that fit in the glove, got rid of the glove long ago...so appreciate the backstory you included with the deets for the card. So glad to hear you were spared the worst of the flood waters.
And yes, praise and thanks go out to the angels on the ground doing the clean-up and recovery work.
Here in the west it is hard to even comprehend the amount of rainfall you all have experienced in your area. We haven't had rain in so long I can't even remember what it feels like! So far over 17 big fires burning in Oregon, Idaho has a similar amount and Montana (my home state) is also burning in too many places to count....what we wouldn't give for even 3 or 4" of your 30" of rain. And I'm certain you would have willingly shared that amount, and more, if you could have.
Thanks again for sharing this card, it is a day brightener and a trip down memory lane!

A beautiful thank you card, Liz. I am so happy you and your family were safe and did not get more damage than you did. That is an answered prayer. Goodness, that is an old stamp you found to use today and such a pretty one. Yes, we are all praying for the safety of all from Hurricane Irma. I have a son and family in south Georgia and am getting worried for them.

I love your oxide bg for the glove...it looks so pretty! How timely this challenge was....glad you found this set and others and that they were ok. We all give thanks to those who selflessly help others in this time of need...Those of us who live far away continue to pray for those affected by the hurricanes. So glad to hear that you were only affected by the flooding in a minor way, Liz. And it is both heartbreaking and heartwarming to see how everyone is coming together to help each other down there in Texas. I wish I could do more than just send money.
We had some flooding here in 2010 and my entire basement got about a foot of water in it. At the time, I had a gift wrapping room set up down there. I was so sad about my favorite wrapping papers, that I took some of them and sawed off the wet half and still have little short rolls of those wrapping papers. LOL.

Your card is fabulous! Your story is uplifting! Now praying for family and friends in FL. Hopefully, we will not be evacuated here in NC. Prayers for all in the path of Irma.

How devastating these hurricanes are - what we see on TV is heart breaking. I'm glad you found your stamp and felt able to join in today despite having the distress of the water damage. Your image is lovely and it shows your gratitude.
