Maura (beesmom) selected a wonderful combination of colors for this week's color challenge! Her colors are SU Basic Gray, Bermuda Bay, and Lemon Lime Twist, and her dessert is “birthdays”.
Although I think this combination of colors is so beautiful, I struggled with it initially. I made three cards working with the colors and was not happy with any except this one. Now that I have created a project with the colors, I am sure it will be one I use again.
I have no products in the SU Lemon Lime Twist color, so I had to improvise by using copics and closely related paper. I used the Basic Gray and Bermuda Bay in card stock only. For these two colors, I also used copics in addition to Hero Arts Distress Oxide Inks.
I created the mermaid with a Hero Arts Paper Layering Mermaid Die that I have had for 3 months but was not sure how to use it, quite frankly. I had not used a "paper layering" die before. I think I determined how to use it, but if I didn't, that's ok with me.
I colored the mermaid with copics and die cut her. I lifted the scales and the end of her tail and covered them with sparkles. I also lifted her arms and hair, where possible, and adhered the remaining portions of the die cut to the color-blended panel. I made the panel by sponging distress oxide inks, spritzing a stencil, and laying the wet stencil over the panel. I added seaweed and lots of sequins for bubbles.
My card is a birthday card, but I chose to use a “celebrate” sentiment.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving comments!

You lifted her scales and tail then covered them with sparkles.....have you slept since this challenge went live???? Bev this is simply amazing!! The colours couldn't be more perfect for your super lush watery background and exotic seaweed. I don't know enough words to describe the wonder of your mermaid. Gosh, I love this my dear friend.

Truly fantastic, Bev. The detailing that you put into the mermaid(especially her tail) is awe-inspiring. To lift all those tiny scales and decorate them is something else and adds SO much. The bg seems to "glow"....just as underwater photo do. Really a sensational card.

I love your pretty mermaid card, Bev, and the colors are great. What a wonderful stencil, too. I'm sure the birthday person will love receiving this card.
