I created the general background by using the wrinkle free distress technique with a twist. Since I'm working in my Bible, I put the ink on a piece of discarded packaging plastic, spritzed with water, then turned it over on the page, repeating with several colors.
To give it some gold to tie into the gilded edge of the other components, I applied mica powder (Perfect Pearls) using a wet paintbrush.
I shaded all my elements, stamped the word Persevere several times with several stamping-off to give the fading effect, and writing my thoughts about the verses I'm studying 1 Thess 5.
