I saw this technique recently on video and have been itching to give it a go. This challenge was the perfect opportunity. The design was slightly modified to suit my stash...and I needed to make a card, something I haven't done for a while
After spreading clear gesso, patterned tissue paper (out of a recent shopping expedition bag ) was torn and spread aimlessly. White cotton was then twirled into a sort of circle and plonked on top. More clear gesso added (later I realised it should have been white gesso, so look out for card number 2 that's being completed today, but clear gesso worked).
Paste spread through the butterfly stencil. (Now I was going to have to make a butterfly card).
Out came the inks, lots of water squirted and lots of dabbing with lots of drying in between. More colours layered and added and even more drying.
It was at this point that I realised that the print on the tissue paper was showing through and had an oops moment. I really should have used white gesso, but I was liking the cool effect of the dots and thinking they go with butterflies....don't they? All was not lost.
Twine wrapped around and stapled in places and gesso added on the twine to soften the look.
Die cut using 2 patterned papers offset and layered together and clear embossed. Rhinestones added on butterflies.
Sentiment stamped, distressed and added. I hadn't really thought of where to put this and in hindsight I sort of had to plonk it where I could. Mmmm....Next time more planning required
I should have stopped at this point, but when I get going with mixed media there's no stopping me, so out comes the stamp and I'm thinking this could work with the butterflies, but oops one area was a black mess....doh! That's when I remembered the micro beads I'd just purchased. Yep I got carried away and they seemed to lose their sparkle so out came the sprinkles added on top. I'm a bling girl
Finally all dry and glued onto purple card. It's a little warped and currently underneath a book
I was happy dancing by now as I'd made a b/g and finally a card. Even better was that apart from a tiny stamp and the inks, everything (including the papers and twine) were new additions to my stash...sitting there waiting to be opened and used
Thanks for taking time to look. Happy day

That is one fabulous background - and you've inspired me to try playing with this over the weekend when I get free time. Love all the texture and flowing colours.
