The sketch this week is so simple that it cries out to be made into an elegant card! As soon as I saw the star in the sketch, I knew I wanted mine to feature a snowflake.
I recently saw a new technique called "Ink Spritzer Background" that I wanted to try on this card. So I began with a piece of 3-3/4" x 5" watercolor paper. I spritzed it with water until it was very wet. Then taking a clear report cover first randomly dropped a few drops of SU Island Indigo and Pool Party from re-inker bottles on the inside of the clear plastic. Then, spritzed over the entire plastic with Luminarte's Radiant Rain Teal Zircon spray. This spritzer contains luminescent particles that add a beautiful sparkle and sheen to the paper. Then I closed the report folder to spread the ink around. I opened the folder, and place two sheets of watercolor paper (back to back) inside the folder and closed it up. I smooshed the closed folder to move the color around inside it to cover both pieces of paper. I then removed the two pieces of watercolor paper and placed them on a plain piece of printer paper and spritzed them once again with the beautiful Teal Zircon spray to cover any white areas that didn't get coated inside the folder. I dried then with a heat tool, and laid them under a heavy book to finish the drying and flatten them.
While the watercolor papers were being flattened, I applied a 2"x 3" strip of shiny furnace foil tape (NOT duct tape!) to a scrap of cardstock. I then stamped a snowflake using Stazon Azure ink. Note that the ink HAD to be Stazon or some other all-surface ink since the furnace tape is super shiny and doesn't absorb ink.
While the Stazon ink dried, I chose one of my two beautiful blue/aqua watercolor papers and wrapped it at the top with sheer silver ribbon (I wanted a hint of the vertical element required by the sketch, but not an overwhelming one that would take away from my gorgeous splotches.) I glued a few tiny rhinestones in the darker areas of my watercolor paper, and stamped the "Season's Greetings" sentiment at the bottom right of the card.
Finally, I hand cut the snowflake image with paper snips. The back of the snowflake was covered with little pieces of Adhesive Foam Strips to give some depth to the card. I then mounted it over the ribbon. A middle-sized rhinestone was glued to the middle of the snowflake.
This decorated watercolor sheet was matted with a piece of Island Indigo cardstock, and then glued to the Whisper White Thick Cardstock card base.
