Made as a Design Team card for Try Stampin' -Or Not- On Tuesday Sketch Challenge #332: http://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/ with the optional theme of "seaside".
I started by stamping the mermaid image from Stampin' Up!'s retired "Fintastic" stamp set onto Neenah Solar White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink (great for using with alcohol markers). I then used 15 different Copic markers to color the mermaid. After which, I fussy cut her out using paper snips.
I cut SU's Pool Party cardstock as the main panel (4"x 5-1/4"). Then using a retired Fiskars wave punch, I punched out 6" of waves from both SU Dapper Denim and Island Indigo cardstock. I used the Dapper Denim piece as my base, then glued the Island Indigo waves on top of it. Using the negative scraps from the Dapper Denim punching, I glued them along the base of the Island Indigo piece (this made thrifty use of scraps, but also avoided a noticeable repeating of wave patterns by using the negative punches).
The sentiment was stamped using SU Pacific Point ink using my MISTI to allow me to stamp the large letters twice to ensure good ink coverage.
The colored mermaid was attached to the main panel using a long strip of adhesive foam strip doubled-up (on stacked on top of the other) down from her had to her tail. Then Mini Glue Dots were put on the back of her hair on both sides of her head, and on both sides of the shell and sand. This allowed me to attach her so that she appeared three-dimensional with her body raised higher than the other parts of the colored image.
The main panel was then glued to the Kraft card base using Tombo glue.
As you'd guess, the hardest part was hand coloring the mermaid image, so I'll give this a difficulty rating of "3". I think it's perfect for a little girl's birthday!
