I'm having a hard time with Mother's Day. Today's fb memory was pictures of beautiful flowers along the way as I walked to the hospital 2 years ago to visit Mom. Her breast cancer had metasasized to her brain and since it was a single lesion they did surgery to remove it. The hope was that it would extend her life, but her cancer was so stinkin' strong and by the end of July more brain metastases had formed and she passed away September 5th. One of my cousins had posted this hymn today and it was one of Mom's favorites. She loved poppies and often for my May birthday she'd buy me purple mini pansies or pansies. I was drawn to this piece from the inspiration site Create the Cut. I watercolored the flowers and then added some black gel pen to the poppy centers. I love the site and will surely go back for more inspiration.
PS-I never know quite where to put hymnal pages... sometimes I go with Bible Journal Page but today went with Altered Other Items

Just lovely. The flowers are bright and happy against the hymn background. I'm so sorry for your loss. I no longer have my mother either and every Mother's Day is a little sad for me too. A beautiful tribute for your Mom.

Beautifully done. This is my first year without my Mom and breast cancer weakened her and pneumonia got her. They made us better Moms though and gave us wonderful and sweet memories. Giant hugz to you this weekend. Your BAJ is awesome!!!

This is SO beautiful, and what a heartfelt and stunning tribute to your dear Mom! I am so very sorry that you are going through this first Mother's Day without her. You will be in my prayers this weekend. I understand, I lost my Dad to brain cancer in early 2002, and I have the same feeling when it comes to Father's Day, although I've had longer to deal with it. I really try (have tried this for the last few years) and concentrate on gratitude for the very wonderful Dad I had. He loved these old hymns, one of my favorites is this one. What a great message, that our Savior walks with us through our tough times, and He talks to us--giving us encouraging messages, and He reminds us that we are His children. How blessed are we who have Him as our Heavenly Father, He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us.
I haven't tried this yet, but I have one old hymn book, and I will ask my Mom for a couple I know she still has at home. I'd love to try something like this, although I don't think I could free-hand anything at all! I am beyond impressed with your watercolor art!!! I especially love how bold and vibrant are the colors against the black and white of this music.

This really is an eye-catching creation in the gallery today! Hugs to you, mf on this Mother's day. I know how difficult it is. Try to find joy in the beauty of the day and just how special your mom was.
