This card was inspired by the story in the 14th chapter of the book "50 Truths Worth Knowing". As a child Michael begged his dad to let him wear his high school ring. Michael says the best 8th grade graduation gift he received was a box that contained that ring. His dad said Michael could wear it until he received his own ring as a high school graduate at which time this ring would be returned to his father. It was a way of encouraging Michael to stay in school and be the first in his family to graduate from both high school and college.
It was also agreed that if Michael ever had a son, he would carry out this new tradition with him as well.
Michael wore his dad's ring every day for two years, then the unthinkable happened. The ring was lost. He hated telling his dad, but his dad wasn't angry. He said the important thing was to continue the dream to graduate.
Michael plans to do that, and when he does he also plans to give his own high school ring to his dad as a way of thanking him for the love and encouragement he has always shown to Michael.
