I recently got an e-mail from the woman I send cards to for Send a Smile 4 Kids. A woman at one of the hospitals she sends donated cards to wants handmade sympathy cards for parents whose babies die in their NICU. So I created this card for that. I created the gradient on the background by blending Distress inks onto mixed media paper, then embossed the panel. I actually used Cracked Pistachio on the top section, but didn't like the way it looked, so I layered Twisted Citron, which I'd used for the middle "stripe," over that. I used 3 Tombow markers to scribble blue & purple colors on the solid butterfly (also cut from mixed media paper), then spritzed it with water to blend the colors & dried it with my heat tool. I layered the vellum butterfly on top, gluing it just in the center so the wings would pop up; then glued the body that I'd die cut from dark grey cardstock over the vellum. I heat embossed the greeting onto a strip of green cardstock, adhered it to the background, and glued the butterfly over that. I really like how this card came out, and hopefully it will bring comfort to grieving parents.
