This was not one of my favorite layouts because I prefer the image to be smaller, but I need to move out of my comfort zone at times.
So I started with the Penny Black stamp and colored it. I found some designer paper (stripes) that I thought would look good for the top and bottom panels. Matted the image in the deep yellow and cut the punched panel. I needed another paper for the center and decided to stamp the balloons. Got that section done, put it together, and...
Tore it apart!
I just didn't like it. The chunkiness of the balloon stamp didn't got with the subtle stripes, but I so loved the balloons... so stripes got replaced with embossed white panels. I think it gives the card a lighter feeling.
What is interesting is that the size of the image was not a problem, like I feared it would be...

Terrific. Love the birthday cat and your out-of-the-box cutting. The sentiment and ribbons look like a special birthday award; I like it. Wonderful colors. Love the sparkles in the background. Well done with the sketch, even if it did challenge you. It is good to get out of our comfort zone. Glad you played along. TFS
